2013 Bike To Work Day - DC

May 17, 2013

Goal today: Get the cool Bike Arlington Water Bottle. That meant I had to get to the Ballston Bike to Work Day stop by Freshbikes. I got up at 6:15am, showered, and prepped everything. The LLBean coffee mug didn't fit well into my water bottle holder, so I abandoned that. Hit the road at 7am sharp: IMG_1470[1] Did my normal route getting to the W&OD, and then got on the Bluemont trail towards Freshbikes, like I did yesterday for my fitting. IMG_1471[1] Got to Ballston by 7:40am. Only briefly stopped; Still had to make it to Tyson's by 8:30am. Didn't win the bike raffle, but I got my Water Bottle! IMG_1474[1] But I had to leave, even Tim (@bikearlington) thought I could make it to Tyson's LLBean by 8:30am. I left up the Custis, but with my experience riding Mt. Weather, commuting up the Custis rollers wasn't too bad. Next stop was Falls Church: IMG_1475[1] IMG_1476[1] Left from the Falls Church stop moving towards Tysons, and found the Merrifield stop, after slogging it up Virginia Lane with now 15 more pounds of swag. IMG_1477[1] Rode up Gallows, with an ever increasing pack of swag and waterbottles now. I should have put my bike on the scale the folks from Inova Fairfax hospital had at the stop. Turned right towards Tyson's corner mall, and made fun of the folks on Route 7: IMG_1478[1] But I made it to the LLBean stop at 8:35: IMG_1479[1] Rode back across 7 on International Drive/Gallows (not that bad), and was a bit disappointed to be the only bike in the parking lot. My coworker Ian did show up 20 minutes later, having ridden in from Herndon, stopping at the Reston and Vienna BTWD stops. IMG_1480[1] IMG_1481[1]
