Hill Escalation
October 24, 2012
The first hill was the one down the street. That one kicked my ass. Now I can ride up it still in the middle chainring (I've got a triple). The next hill that demolished me is over on Chesnut. I've cut almost a minute off the initial time I first climbed it. Then there's the hill on Rosemary, that's nasty, either way. The hill on Bolling Rd. did that too, as well as the on Greenway Blvd. The Virginia Lane hill on the W&OD, and Buckhorn Lane, and Custis trail, they're all good, but I've now had to escalate to a bigger hill to keep kicking my ass.
Here's Poplar Dr. It's a short climb, but long and straight for this neighborhood. Low traffic, because it really ends in a cul-de-sac. Average grade of 6%, (72 feet up, 1161 feet horizontal) the Garmin has it with an 11% piece. Needless to say, if I plan on climbing Alpe d'Huez, I need to make Poplar seem like Chesnut or Bolling.
